AMATA Group (Thailand) has proposed researching investment in an industrial, urban and service project covering more than 3,800 ha in Ho Chi Minh City.

AMATA shared this information at a recent working session with the HCMC People’s Committee. Mr. Vikrom Kromadit, Chairman and CEO of the Group, said that in Vietnam AMATA has implemented 7 industrial park and urban area projects with total investment of USD 860 million.

The company expressed its wish to further expand investment, particularly by developing an industrial – urban – service project of more than 3,800 ha in Chau Duc District, within the former Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province (now part of HCMC), with a minimum total investment of USD 180 million. The project will target high-tech and logistics industries following a smart industrial – urban park model. AMATA has partnered with a Japanese consultancy to study feasibility and master planning, and hopes to receive support from the HCMC government in promotion, connection and completion of investment procedures.

Responding to AMATA’s proposal, Chairman of the HCMC People’s Committee Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized that Thailand is currently one of the major investors in Vietnam, operating effectively in industry, trade, tourism, aviation and more. The city always values and promotes cooperation, accompanies businesses and is committed to facilitating procedures, infrastructure and connections.

HCMC leaders assessed AMATA’s project as consistent with the region’s industrial – logistics development orientation, and assigned the Department of Finance as the focal point to coordinate and guide the company in working with relevant agencies to review planning and complete documents as required. Mr. Duoc affirmed that with its experience and capability in developing modern industrial – urban parks, the project will help promote regional linkage and create momentum for economic development in the South.

The head of the HCMC government also expressed his wish to further expand cooperation with Thai businesses in high technology, smart cities and green energy – sectors in line with the city’s sustainable development orientation.

Since July 1, the new HCMC has been formed by merging the former HCMC, Binh Duong and Ba Ria – Vung Tau, creating an industrial center (including mining, processing, manufacturing, construction…) worth nearly VND 930,000 billion, accounting for more than 25.52% of the country’s industrial value as of 2024. According to the planning with a vision to 2050, the city will have 105 export processing zones and industrial parks with a total planned area of more than 49,000 ha, making it the country’s leading industrial center.
